Taurine is white crystal or crystalline powder, odorless, slightly acidic flavor; soluble in water, 1 part taurine can be dissolved in 15.5 parts water at 12℃; slightly soluble in 95% ethanol, solubility at 17℃ is 0.004; insoluble in anhydrous ethanol, ether and acetone.
Taurine is a nonprotein sulfur-containing amino acid and smell-less, sourish and innoxious white acicular crystal. It is a major constituent of bile and can be found in the lower intestine and, in small amounts, in the tissues of many animals, including humans.
